This is supposed to be a set of Christian books. The first book is all about the main character going where God leads. As such there are things that don't belong in such a book. There's profanity, though minor and sparse, which has no place in a Christian book. There's also talk by supposedly Christian characters that makes it sound like premarital sex is ok rather than a sin. While it never goes that far, there's also a scene where things get a little too heated. It was completely unnecessary to the story. I stick with Christian books specifically to avoid this kind of thing. The author has ruined what otherwise is a very good story. The plot of each is wonderful but overshadowed for me by these things that have no place in such a book.

Pawleys Island Paradise boxset Books 1 3 edition by Laurie Larsen Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I downloaded this to read on a road trip, and was so engrossed I did not realize when we were at our destinations. Each book began where the previous book ended, but featured different characters while still maintaining the prior main characters. I love the beach and vacation annually to a Caribbean island; I could smell the ocean and feel the sea breeze as the author described the scenes.

So many movies and even novels are so explicit with the language and and sexual content that it is refreshing to read a Christian based romance book without the unnecessary graphic words. The message is not preachy but one of forgiveness and hope. I look forward to reading number 4 of the series.
They screw up, they forget to pray, they lust after people they aren't married to, they worry, they refuse to forgive, kids reared in Christian homes end up in jail while their siblings contribute to society but bless! This author is an awesome story teller. There are a few places where the verb tenses seem wrong, and in one place the eyebrows of a male character shut rather than shoot up in surprise, but I do want to read more of 'LL' s stories.
Roadtrip to Redemption - 4
Leslie Malone is struggling to get her bearings after her husband of twenty years had an affair and divorced her. She’d kept busy in her teaching job, but now summer is upon her and she finds her daughter headed for Paris for the summer instead of home. On the spur of the moment, Leslie decides to take a road trip to Pawley’s Island, a place she remembers fondly from her childhood.

Five years ago, Hank Harrison lost his wife to leukemia, his son to prison, and his business in bankruptcy. He’s never been the same. But Leslie seems to be an answer to his prayers, and he begins to feel whole again. However, they have their conflicts, and she needs time to heal.

I enjoyed getting to know Hank and Leslie, and I liked their story. However, I found the first three chapters unnecessary to the story, and I almost put the book aside when it got to the detailed, boring knitting circle. However, I’m glad I hung in there, because it did get better. I didn’t like the four times h*ll was used or the two times God’s name was taken in vain. Teachers need different certification to teach third grade from sixth grade, but nothing was said about Leslie having both when she switched grade levels. “The south” should have been capitalized, since it’s the region. Pronouns were misused a lot, like in “to join Stella and I,” “for your dad and I,” and “with the realtor and I.” I could not find “weirded out” in any dictionary. The ending started off good, but fell flat at the very last. There should have been enough to leave the reader completely satisfied. However, despite all these problems, this was a very engaging book and interesting story, so I gave it four stars.

Tide to Atonement - 4
Jeremy Harrison made a series of serious mistakes running his father’s construction business, but he’s served his time in prison, and now he just wants to make a good life for himself. However, those he harmed haven’t forgotten and don’t want Jeremy to succeed at anything. When he first meets Emma Slotky, he discovers her family was one of the ones hurt by his bad choices, but they both feel an unmistakably chemistry, although she fights it. Can they move beyond this and he be the man she deserves despite his past?

At first, I liked this book better than the first one. Jeremy was very lovable, although I’ve begun to think this author writes better male characters than she does female ones. Hank and Jeremy were great, but Leslie and Emma were just okay. However, as I continued to read, I found even more I didn’t like about this one. Here are some of them
-If Jeremy had only been out of prison for 3 months, how did he live in his dad’s old house for a while and still have stayed with his sister “several months” when he first got out? It doesn’t add up.
-It had 10 crude or curse words, including s.o.b written out.
-After kissing passionately, “he concentrated on reducing one particular body part back to normal size”
-The only reason Jeremy, a strong Christian, gives for rejecting Emma’s attempt to seduce him is he wants to make himself a better man for her first. There’s no mention of God, faith, or moral values
-Her mom would have seen five-year-old Stella wearing the necklace and asked her about it
There were also many misused words, like “am” for “a.m.,” “slow” for “slowly,” “to he and Emma,” “her and I,” “Between your mom and I,” and “New Years” instead of “New Year’s.”
The ending started out to be very good, but then it ended with them talking about selling furniture – quite a letdown.

Journey to Fulfillment – 5
Stella’s kidnapping seems to have far more effect on her parents than it does her. When Tom decides to forbid her uncle from coming near them and Marianne stands up for brother, real trouble begins. Marianne also wants to organize a dinner theater to help their struggling inn, but Tom opposes her. Will they never see eye to eye and get back the closeness they once shared?

At first, I didn’t think I would like this book as much, because it was about a married couple having problems. In addition, it backed up and recounted what had happened with Stella’s kidnapping, and I didn't need a lengthy account of the material I had just read. I was wrong, however, because this is a very engaging novel. There’s also less profanity, only three h*lls, and fewer grammatical errors. This author has real talent. She just needs do a little cleaning, which this book came close to doing.
Truly enjoyed and was wrapped up in the plotlines and the characters in the first two of the three books in this set. The middle-aged protagonist in the first novel was easy to identify with, and I enjoyed following her adventures and how she dealt with a huge issue that had cropped up in her life right as the story began. The second book followed her and several other new characters and again was easy to empathise with. The third book seemed a little more abrupt and the characters' motivations and stances on several things seemed a bit too heavily drawn, even though the people had previously been introduced. Additionally there was one character introduced who was not followed up on except in one minor scene. This could have been due to the potential of him being used in an upcoming novel, but I found it a bit odd. I rated this set as "No violence" and "no sexual content," which might be a trifle disingenuous. Because one of the characters had been in prison and come into contact with some forms of violence, they are mentioned, albeit in very mindful language. Also, several arson set fires occur, as does a kidnapping of a young girl. Again, those are handled in a sensitive way with nothing gratuitous added. Sexually, there are a couple romances in the books, but nothing goes above and beyond initial kisses, etc. for shock or thrill value. On the whole, everyone is quite circumspect.
Absolutely loved these three books! God is the only "Boss" and if we can keep that knowledge in our hearts, we would all be better people! Unfortunately, we forget and then we have bigger problems! I thoroughly enjoyed these books from the beginning to the end and look forward to reading more from this author. You won't be disappointed!
