The story used such strong words as (Women’s Emancipation, stereotyping of women, a society that uses tradition to antagonize its women) that make you think. This is a good thing! The author present a story in which we all have an opportunity to reflect on our lives. This book talks about a woman who spends her life, living up to social expectations and culture requirements. In doing so, she loses herself and abandon’s her personal happiness. Her daily routine becomes that of just getting by or making others happy.
The author asked you to question, why society views educated, strong, and self-aware women as threats! Why does the woman have to be weak, head bowed, cannot function unless the man tells her to or how to? Why cannot a woman be educated, wife, mother, and lover? If society dictates that a woman should be considered, lesser than a man should. Then think about the injustices, discrimination, and disrespect women face every day in this society.
The book gives the reader the chance to reflect on the many sacrifices one makes to fit that so-called social expectation. We cannot imagine the weight and weariness carried on the shoulders of these women. The author shows how the women feel, living in households where it is okay for the husband to beat, abuse (verbal, physical), and cheat.
