I liked this book, but I am irritated by the cliffhanger-ending. The book is 173 pages long. Combine the volumes into one book and be done with it already. I don't care enough about the ending to pay for two more books, just to be honest. I'm sick of paying for these short reads that could easily make up one strong book. I appreciate the authors who include in the book descriptions whether the book is a standalone or has a cliffhanger-ending with a follow-up book. Just because a book is listed as part of a series does not mean it can't be a standalone, and authors/publishers should be courteous enough to clarify that in the book descriptions. While the book was good, it didn't leave me anxious to buy into the rest of the series to see what happens.Product details

No HEA? Leaves me feeling as though I just wasted my time reading something with out a real conclusion do not buy this series....
The book starts off slow but really picks up and gets going good. I got invested in the characters. But to end it on a cliff hanger? Wtf this isn't a TV show... to be continued. Eff that noise. I would have been more than willing to pay the money for more in the series but to not even end the story, but try to force your hand to buy the next one is crap. I'm glad it was free.
I need to start by saying I truly hate books that are broken into parts and you need to buy multiple books to finish the same story, so there was that disappointment but also this story for me was also a bit boring. Ruby takes a job as a housekeeper for a hermit so she can stay isolated from people herself and work on building her apps, which she doesn’t promote to sell so gets very little money and needed the job because her parents finally had enough of her living off them and kicked her out. To me she was written a little like maybe she was on the spectrum? Or maybe just severe social anxiety?……unsure, but she most definitely is most comfortable with little to no human interaction. Tex however is a mystery, he’s surly drunk and a grieving and angry artist but apart from the death of his sister very little is actually explained. Why is he so terrified of being on stage when he clearly loves it so much? Why do fans freak him out like they do? The relationship that starts to develop with Ruby does start to wake him up a little and there starts to be a healing with his bandmates, at least enough to headline a festival for the cash injection for them all but he is adamant he will not return to the stage, and with his freak outs in the lead up to the festival (again why is not explained) I can see why and Ruby is happy that they will go back to living in their own little hole with no one else. Of course once onstage he is in his element and it is all going well but with all the people and seeing how comfortable Tex is in front of the screaming fans she freaks out and leaves and that is the end of the story! The story is slow to develop, there are little in the way of revelations and the characters feel very one dimensional, so throw in the cut off of the story and needing to buy another book to see how it ends and I really didn’t like this very much and definitely won’t be investing in another book.
I don’t mind reading series, but what I despise is a major CLIFF HANGER! When I read them, I like to know that part of the story is over & the next book is going to have the characters on whatever track the story is going on. But with that aside, this is a really decent book to read.
In this book you will meet Ruby, an “adult” who still has a bit of maturing to do. Yes, she is mature, but she has that child-like view on the world. After all, she became a house-keeper via Craig’s List!!!

Ruby is a loner, one that would prefer to not have much to do with society. She has had a tough time in school, as well as feeling like she simply does not fit in.
Tex is a complete different story. A man hiding from the world, the “why” is what you have to find out & understand before you can understand exactly why he left society & basically life. He is the strangest hermit I have read about. Running from life, hiding in a house that should have been a home.
Will Ruby be able to pull Tex out of his depression? Will Ruby be able to open herself up, something that she has not done before? Can Tex actually heal from the wounds in his heart & mind?
Ms. Starr created two unique individuals, that need seem to need each other. She created a story that will touch your heart.
She writes about what she knows. Using her past history as a band manager to create this tale. Ms. Adams provides you with information that helps you understand these characters & the worlds they live in.
Downloaded this book for free and won't be continuing to the next one. This was very boring in my opinion. I understand all the angst on the side of Tex but the main character, Ruby, was like a dish rag - bland and uninteresting. There was so much inner dialogue on Ruby's part - it would have been a lot better to have more show and less tell. There is no real ending and there is something cliffhanger, which I don't mind, if the book is good. In this case, it just annoyed me. My apologies to the author but seriously the characters had no chemistry.
One star mainly because its a cliffhanger. I'm sick and tired of authors pulling this crap. Make is a standalone or all in one like the best authors do. This trend is tiring and dishonest. Don't even start this book. The price is way too high when you consider the price of each " chapter" you have to buy. These puts are Chapters, not whole books. needs to stop accepting these authors that do this. And I plan on being one of hundreds if not thousands of readers that discuss just that with them.
