From J.R. Rain, the international bestselling author of over sixty novels, and H. P. Mallory, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, comes their first co-written book, ICE WOLF!
Ellie Matthews is the new police chief in Hope, Alaska. An experienced homicide detective, she’s running from a past that haunts her. One bullet changed her entire life and set her on a career path that collides with native lore, shape-shifter legends... and wolves.
In ICE WOLF, a hunter stumbles upon a naked body. When Ellie and her deputy retrieve the frozen corpse, he’s got a silver dagger in his chest but no ID. It’s Ellie’s first homicide case in Hope and she aims to solve it. But even stranger things happen and this murder investigation will be anything but routine. Ellie doesn’t want to believe the forensic evidence, but there’s something creepy about the John Doe victim. There’s no way that she’d walk away from this case, but maybe she should run.
The prime suspect is Alex Johnson, a bounty hunter who knows a lot more about shifters than he’s telling. But is he crying wolf? Things could get downright steamy with Ellie’s number-one suspect, who may be her only ally in town. But can this beauty trust a beastly hunk who’s under arrest?
It will take all of Ellie’s homicide investigation experience to track down the killer before the killer finds her first.

What are readers saying about Ice Wolf?
“ICE WOLF is funny, thrilling and sexy! It’s a page-turner with spine-tingling suspense, a hot romance and a compelling paranormal mystery. I fell in love with the Alaska setting and the engaging characters. It's like Joe Leaphorn meets ‘Eureka.’ Loved it. More werewolves, please!” -Eve Paludan, Author of Vampire for Hire Wolf Moon
Ice Wolf edition by JR Rain HP Mallory Romance eBooks
There are absolutely awesome points in this story and absolutely infuriating points. LOVED the overall story, itself. It starts with a bang that is fun, intriguing and very well set up. But, Ellie's character flip-flops at whiplash speed. She is supposed to be the chief of police but acts like a snotty teenager. From arresting a man for no more reason than annoying her (really?!?) to acting like a total jerk to him after SHE initiates a physical relationship (that very same night, btw.) And seriously, what woman police chief who is trying to gain respect has sex with a stranger she arrested earlier in the evening?!?!? Makes. No. Sense!! The examples could go on and on.And, just as the story becomes really interesting, it suddenly fast-forwards to the finish! WAIT!! It was just getting good! And it wasn't in the I-can't-wait-until-the- next-book way, but in the you-rushed-it-and-didn't-allow-us-time-to- enjoy-it way. A very fast, wrap it up, be done with it kind if finish. SO much awesome potential for depth and growth in the storyline was just ignored and brushed over right at the very best parts. Then... The end. ARGH!!

Ice Wolf edition by JR Rain HP Mallory Romance eBooks Reviews
I was curious how JR Rain and HP Mallory would blend their two styles of writing. They are one of my 2 favorite writers so was excited to read Ice Wolf. I wasn't disappointed. Like it so much that I thought it ended too soon. I think this story was a set up for a series. The blending of the author's style worked well together. They complemented each other. JR with his serious hard edge, no nonsense, and wonderful environmental descriptions and HP humorous, romantic, and playful styles of writing. I hope there will an other one coming soon
I want more of Alex and Ellie... I loved this story and the collaboration between H. P. Mallory and J.R. Rain gets a five-star rating from me. I can't wait for the next book in this new series. It's a refreshing change of direction for the story telling about werewolves.
This book was so choppy. First he say's he won't run away or leave her, not a one night stand. Then he's mad about something she wants to do and never wants to see her again, then he's all crazy about her again. I love JR Rain and not sure how much he contributed but this was the worse book I've read in awhile. Only good part is the morgue.
Okay, this book was just awesome. I read it in a day and just could not put it down. Two of my favorite authors worked on this together and I have to say it is a hit. I really like Alex, he is the type of character that you cannot help but fall in love with. He is smart, honest, loyal and sexy. Ellie is a very intelligent woman who is confident but closed off, it is interesting to look at the world through her eyes. I am not going to say anymore because that would spoil the story for you. It is a must read if you like shifters, Alaska or either R.J. or H.P. I love that it was not a cliff hanger but still left it open for more to come.
I was eager to read this as I love anything by Jr Rain, but this was very disappointing. The main heroine was bit hybrid the entire book and a very unlikable character. The plot was pretty simplistic and not of the quality I was used to in a book by Jr. But I think the inability to connect with the main character was what really turned me off.
I was so disappointed that two good authors could publish something like this in good conscience. The storyline sounded very promising, but the book didn't deliver. About 50% of the book was a constant, repetitive, annoying dialogue the main character had with herself. It was the same thing, over and over and over. I wanted to stop reading, but I kept expecting it to get better, Unfortunately, it never did. There was nothing to like about the either of the main characters. By the time I reached the end of the story, I was relieved I didn't have to read any more of it. There was no substance to this book whatsoever and, even though I've always enjoyed reading these authors, I'll be leery of reading anything they publish after this. I've never given a bad review to a book before. In fact, I can't remember ever giving a book one star. In this case, however, I felt like reading this book was a complete waste of my limited reading time.
Strong, Independent Woman. Who is the Chief of Police in a small town in Alaska. Meets a man who is a suspect in a crime. He "happens" to be a Werewolf who can read minds. (Eye roll here) Her brain proceeds to turn to mush and she becomes dumber than a box of rocks. (sorry rocks for insulting you that way. The same night she goes to the bar in town, gets drunk and has sex with the suspect. ( another eye roll here.) She becomes even dumber if at all possible. Until Spoiler alert here. She manages to get bitten by another Werewolf and has to decide if she wants to become a werewolf or die. Unfortunately she decides to live setting the authors up for a bunch of sequels. I usually enjoy both authors separately together it is a snooze fest. Save your bucks and time and find something else to read. It started out as a great premise If they would have let the Heroine stay smart and independent. They could have spread out the wooing of her throughout several books. Letting them form a friendship Before the wham-bam- thank-you-mam. Instead of her jumping into the sack within hours of meeting him. Now THAT would have been sexy having the sexual tension build and build. Instead it seemed like something a Whimpy teen aged boy would fantasize about in the dark in his bed. Sigh. Not a prude and I like sexy romances a lot. This just wasn't it. I gave it one star because there wasn't a zero stars option. By the way I am the wife of the account holder.
