The Accidental Bad Girl is a fun ride, with vivid characters and shocking twists. What at first seems to be a bubblegum tale of high school drama gets steadily deeper and subverts the “Mean Girls” genre completely, with strong characters who transcend girl-on-girl rivalries and the bad girl/good girl dichotomy. There are an array of male cretins populating the book, who are terrifyingly believable and all too common. This book is a feminist upowerhouse. I wish I’d read something like this in my teens—it might have saved me from learning a few lessons the hard way. I think Accidental Bad Girl has the power to help a lot of young women navigate toxic gender roles, and I will be telling all my librarian/teacher friends about it!

An enormously fun, wild ride and a real page turner. Kendall is the protagonist we've all been waiting for.
As soon as I started it, I could not put this book down! Interesting and intense plot that draws you in wanting to know more. Excellent first book by the author.

As soon as I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. It is addictive and action packed, but also full of authentically drawn characters, and sharp insights about gender dynamics and sexuality. More than anything, it is a lot of fun and keeps you engaged the whole way through
This is a fun page-turner that you won't want to put down; I read it in one sitting. The author writes true-to-life characters, with a vivid protagonist and believable antagonists. Beyond the main cast, the author quickly establishes the dynamic of the entire Howell Prep senior class, creating a high school environment that feels lived-in and familiar. The story elevates high school drama with genuine emotion and truly high stakes - sexual assault, drug dealing, violence - and the plot works in a LOT of twists to keep you hooked. Especially recommended if you like complicated characters, anti-heroines, and stories about empowered women.
What an amazing adrenaline ride! Kaplan has given us everything but a dangle from a helicopter!
No spoilers from this review. It's too much fun to white knuckle it to the last incredibly surprising and satisfying page. But I will share this There are so many dimensions to these characters, that one can’t help but shake their head with incredulity at the protagonist and appreciate the warmth and desperation of the antagonist. It’s impossible not to recognize one’s own angst, regret, vulnerability and at times - questionable integrity, regardless of their age. It’s written with stunning authenticity. I can’t wait for her next book.
